LONDON (AP) — Spanish winger Adama Traore switched London clubs on Wednesday, joining West Ham from Fulham. He said the movie about the new team showed him the passion of the fans.
“I’ve been watching West Ham for a long time,” said Traore, 30. “It’s a huge club and a huge fan base. I’ve watched it since I was young when I watched films about West Ham. I know the fans and how much passion they have.”
Traore was presumably talking about the 2005 fictional film Greenstreet, which explored the culture of hooliganism in English football through a fan group associated with West Ham.
Green Street was the name of the road leading to West Ham’s old stadium, Upton Park.
The club are currently playing at the Olympic Stadium and Traore will be reunited with West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo. They had previously worked together in Wolverhampton.
The powerful right winger comes from Barcelona’s youth system and has already played for four English teams: Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Wolves and Fulham.
“He will give us different options in attacking areas,” Nuno said.
