VERONA, Italy (AP) – Former Aston Villa striker Keiynan Davies scored his seventh goal of the season as his Udinese side beat struggling Verona 3-1 on Monday.
Verona remained second-bottom in Serie A, level with bottom Pisa on 14 points, but showed little sign of registering a third win in a miserable season.
Udinese took the lead in the 23rd minute with Arthur Atta’s deflected shot. Emmanuel Orbán equalized for Verona three minutes later, but Verona’s hopes did not last long into the second half.
Thirteen minutes into the second period, Alessandro Zanoli put Udinese ahead. Jordan Zemura’s free kick was blocked by the wall and the ball fell awkwardly to Zanoli, who volleyed a deft shot into the top corner with the outside of his boot.
Davies’ confident goal after 66 minutes sealed the point for Udinese.
They remain in 10th place, but with 29 points, level with Lazio in 9th place and 1 point behind Bologna.
