MUNICH (AP) – Bayern Munich are still waiting for Dayot Upamecano to accept a contract extension offer, with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly interested in signing the French defender.
“There was some speculation that Mr. Upa more or less agreed, but we never said that,” Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl said on Friday. “We said we are waiting for Upa’s answer. That is the only thing that matters and that is what we are waiting for.”
Upamecano was transferred from Leipzig in 2021 when Bayern paid him a release fee of approximately 43 million euros ($52.2 million at the time). If he does not sign an extension, he will be free to leave Bayern at the end of the season when his current contract expires.
“I don’t feel any pressure,” he said this month. “I hope we can find a solution soon. There is no deadline.”
Upamecano, 27, will miss Bayern’s Bundesliga match against Augsburg on Saturday due to illness. He has been a regular for Bayern this season as well. He played a total of 176 games for Bayern’s powerful team.
Upamecano has made 35 appearances for France.
