PARIS (AP) — Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique approves of soccer’s sin-bin-style system, where players are temporarily taken out of the game for fouls.
Sin bins are used in rugby matches when a player incites foul play and is sent off for 10 minutes. There is no such system in soccer, where players can be cautioned with a yellow card or permanently sent off with a red card.
Coach Luis Enrique was asked in Thursday’s pre-match press conference if he would approve of the so-called “orange” card, which allows a player to be sent off for 20 minutes.
“We have to keep exploring things like this,” he said ahead of Friday’s Ligue 1 game against Lille. “It’s important that we continue to evolve as a sport. As far as there is potential for improvement, it’s about finding more attacking football that is more appealing to supporters.”
Another way to improve offensive play is to create more space on the field.
“I remember (former UEFA president Michel) Platini a few years ago telling us to play with 10 players instead of 11,” Luis Enrique said. “These are things to analyze and see what impact it has on our sport. But I’m always open to finding new things.”
