HAMBURG, Germany (AP) – Tuesday’s Bundesliga game between Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV was postponed at short notice due to structural concerns with the roof of Hamburg Stadium.
In a statement less than three hours before kick-off, the league said it had closed the Volksparkstadion due to “weather-related structural risks to the roof area of the stadium”. The match will be rescheduled at a later date.
Another match between Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt has started as scheduled. The next two matches, Borussia Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen and Mainz vs. Heidenheim, will also be held.
This is the third time in recent days that a Bundesliga match has been canceled. Two games originally scheduled for Saturday were postponed due to safety concerns regarding snow and ice in northern Germany.
The games between Hamburg-based St. Pauli and Leipzig and Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim were both postponed to January 27 earlier on Wednesday.
