MADRID (AP) – Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone apologized to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and forward Vinicius Junior on Monday after an altercation with them during a Spanish Super Cup match.
Simeone and Vinicius provoked each other during the match Madrid beat Atlético 2-1 The Super Cup semi-final was held in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
The manager was seen telling Vinicius that Perez intended to kick him out of the club, referring to his recent spat with opponents and Madrid coach Xabi Alonso.
“First of all, I would like to apologize to Florentino and Vinicius for what happened,” Simeone said at a press conference on Monday. “It wasn’t good for me to put myself in that position and I admit it wasn’t right.”
Atlético will visit Deportivo La Coruña on Tuesday in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.
