NORWICH, England (AP) — Norwich head coach Philippe Clement says U.S. international Josh Sargent refused to play in Sunday’s game. FA Cup vs Walsall.
Clement also insisted Sargent has no intention of leaving the second division club in the January transfer window, despite reported interest from MLS team Toronto FC.
“Josh sent me a message on (Saturday) night saying he was going to be absent because he had transfer thoughts on his mind,” Clement said after Norwich’s 5-1 win over Walsall. “This is clearly not what we want and there will be consequences. This will need to be discussed within the club, but the club has made it clear to Josh and his agent that he will not leave during this transfer window.”
The 25-year-old forward joined Norwich from Werder Bremen in 2021 and has scored eight goals this season.
Norwich easily progressed to the fourth round with Jovon Makama scoring a hat-trick against Walsall.
