MILAN (AP) — AC Milan missed out on a chance to close in on Serie A leaders Inter Milan with a 1-1 draw at home to relegation-threatened Genoa on Thursday.
And it could have been even worse for the Rossoneri, as Genoa missed a penalty with virtually the last kick of the match, after Milan scored an equalizer in stoppage time.
2nd place Milan are 3 points behind Inter, but Won against Parma 2-0 on wednesday.
Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri was celebrating his 200th game in two stints as Rossoneri manager and was keen to keep the pressure on Inter.
And Milan got off to an almost perfect start when Matteo Gabbia headed home Christian Pulisic’s cross.
Instead, Genoa took the lead in the match in the 28th minute when Ruslan Malinovsky floated in a great pass and Lorenzo Colombo side-footed home from close range.
Colombo, 23, on loan from Milan, did not celebrate, instead raising his hand as if to apologize.
Pulisic thought he had equalized in the 59th minute, but the video assistant referee ruled that the ball had hit his arm rather than his head and the goal was ruled out.
There was some drama towards the end at San Siro.
Rafael Leao headed home a corner kick, and then Milan defender Davide Bartesaghi collided with Mikael Erasson inside the area, giving Genoa a penalty.
However, Nicolae “Nixol” Claudiu Stanciu sent the spot-kick over the bar.
Genoa’s winless streak continues to five games, leaving them three points above the relegation zone.
Teenager goes to the rescue
Substitute Yael Trepy, a teenager, scored a superb equalizer as Cagliari fought back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Cremonese.
Trepie, a 19-year-old who had only come on four minutes earlier, fired a long-range shot into the left corner in the 88th minute.
Cremonese took a comfortable lead at half-time thanks to efforts from Dennis Johnsen and Jamie Vardy, with Michel Adopo scoring early in the second half.
Cagliari now sit six points above the drop zone and one point below Cremonese.
