MILAN (AP) — Title-chasing Napoli were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw at home with relegation-threatened Hellas Verona on Wednesday, but it could have been much worse for the defending champions.
Antonio Conte’s side were trailing 0-2 at half-time but fought back in the second half.
Napoli was left in 3rd place, with games against 1st place Inter Milan and lowly Parma coming up.
Inter host Napoli on Sunday.
Verona took the lead in the 16th minute with a surprise backheel flick from Martin Frese, and there was another surprise 11 minutes later when the visitors doubled their lead with Gift Orbán’s penalty following a handball from Alessandro Bongiorno.
Napoli took things back early in the second half through Scott McTominay and the home side had two goals ruled out, but Giovanni Di Lorenzo finally equalized in the 82nd minute.
Verona came within two points of safety.
Elsewhere, Atalanta beat Bologna 2-0 to move them into seventh place.
