AMSTERDAM (AP) – Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has agreed to become FC Twente’s technical director next season, the Dutch club announced Tuesday.
Ten Hag’s return to soccer came after that. Bayer Leverkusen sacked after just 3 games at the beginning of the season.
The Dutchman had moved to Germany to rebuild his career after being released by United in 2024, despite winning trophies in each of two full seasons with the Premier League club.
Ten Hag, who said he was a Twente fan in his youth, started his playing career at the club before returning for a second spell, where he coached at youth level.
His latest role takes him a step away from coaching.
“I want to strengthen the technical foundations of FC Twente with my experience in the areas of youth development, team building and top sports culture,” he said.
Twente said Ten Hag will join the club next month before replacing current technical director Jan Stroyer, who is leaving at the end of the season.
Ten Hag was previously the manager of Ajax, where he won three Dutch league titles. With United he won the English League Cup and the FA Cup.
