LONDON (AP) — Nottingham Forest piled on the pressure. Former manager Nuno Espirito Santo On Tuesday they beat West Ham 2-1.
Morgan Gibbs-White won the game, converting a penalty in the 89th minute to seal a decisive victory in a clash between two teams battling to stay in the Premier League.
Forest are seven points clear of West Ham and the relegation zone. The defeat extends West Ham’s winless run in the league to 10 games and is likely to call into question Nuno’s position after less than four months in charge.
Nuno was sacked by Forest manager earlier this season following a falling out with owner Evangelos Marinakis, but was quickly hired by West Ham in a bid to help the club remain in England’s top flight. However, he has only won two games and lost nine in 16 matches.
West Ham suffered this loss despite taking the lead in the 13th inning with Murillo’s own goal.
10 minutes into the second half, Nicolas Dominguez headed home the equalizing goal. Forest had a chance to seal victory in the final stages of the game when West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Arreola collided with Gibbs-White, following a VAR review.
Despite suffering a blow to the face, Gibbs-White stepped up and fired a spot-kick into the center of the goal, his sixth of the season.
