WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) — It took 20 games, but Wolverhampton Wanderers finally achieved their first win in the Premier League.
Saturday’s 3-0 win over West Ham at Molineux gave Wolves some respite after their historically worst start to a top-flight season.
Since the Premier League began in 1992, no team has taken this long to record their first Premier League win.
The record for the longest unbeaten start to a Top Division campaign is held by Bolton Wanderers, who won their first title in the 1902-03 season on their 22nd attempt.
Wolves, who have won twice this season in the English League Cup, including one against West Ham, last enjoyed success in the Premier League on April 26th. That was a month before the end of last season.
Jon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Mane scored in the first half to lift Wolves to six points. They are still 12 points from safety with 18 games remaining but are just six points behind penultimate Burnley, who lost 2-0 to Brighton on Saturday.
West Ham remained in third-last place, safe with just four points left.
