LONDON (AP) – Crystal Palace signed forward Brennan Johnson from Tottenham on Friday after he struggled for playing time under Spurs manager Thomas Frank.
Palace announced they had paid an undisclosed club record transfer fee, which was widely reported to be around £35 million ($47 million).
Johnson, 24, has signed a contract until the 2029-30 season and will be eligible to make his Palace debut against Newcastle on Sunday.
Johnson was Tottenham’s top scorer last season under manager Ange Postecoglou, scoring 18 goals in all competitions. He scored the only goal in Spurs’ 1–0 win against Manchester United. europa league final. Tottenham paid Nottingham Forest more than £47 million to secure Johnson’s move in 2023.
But this season, under Frank, Johnson saw his minutes reduced. He made 22 appearances for Spurs and scored four goals.
Johnson has made 42 appearances for Wales, scoring seven goals.
“Brennan’s speed and scoring ability will give us options in our attacking play and he will be a valuable addition to our squad for all future games,” Palace manager Oliver Glasner said in a club statement.
