Liverpool drew 0-0 at home to Leeds in the Premier League on Thursday, extending their unbeaten run to eight games, but they once again found themselves at a disadvantage without their key players up front.
Arne Slott’s side were unable to create any clear-cut chances at Anfield and lacked attacking inspiration in the African Cup of Nations with Alexander Isak injured and Mohamed Salah injured.
Defending champions Liverpool remained in fourth place, 12 points behind first-placed Arsenal at midway through the season.
Since losing 4-1 at home to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on November 26, Liverpool have played seven Premier League games, winning four of them and drawing the other three. However, given the team’s struggles early in the season, Slott has struggled to find fluency, with particular emphasis on tightening up at the back.
Another result of their recent unbeaten run was the victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League.
In Tuesday’s other match, Crystal Palace and Fulham drew 1-1. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s opening goal for Palace was canceled out by Tom Cairney.
Later on Thursday, second-placed Manchester City visit Sunderland, while Brentford host Tottenham.
