LONDON (AP) – Arsenal will face Chelsea in the English League Cup semi-finals after defeating Crystal Palace 8-7 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time on Tuesday.
Kepa Arrizabalaga saved Maxence Lacroix’s spot-kick to seal a penalty shootout victory at the Emirates Stadium.
Lacroix’s own goal put Arsenal ahead in the 80th minute, before Marc Guehi equalized for Palace just before stoppage time.
Manchester City will face defending champions Newcastle in the other semi-final.
Arsenal took the lead after Palace failed to clear Bukayo Saka’s corner kick. LaCroix sent the ball flying over the line and shook his head in disbelief.
Five minutes into stoppage time, Jefferson Lerma headed home and Adam Wharton’s free kick was taken by Guehi, who slotted it into the goal.
The penalty taker was perfect until Lacroix’s goal. Arrizabalaga dove with a right to stop it.
“We created a lot (of chances). We should have scored more goals than we scored,” Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports. “Overall, I’m really happy to get another win.”
