MILAN (AP) – Embattled Fiorentina finally got their first Serie A win of the season after playing almost the entire game with 10 men.
Fiorentina beat Udinese 5-1 at home, with goalkeeper Maduka Okoye sent off with less than eight minutes remaining.
It was Fiorentina’s first win in 16 league games, reducing the gap between them and the bottom team to five points.
mid table Udinese defeated defending Serie A champions Napoli last weekend.
However, the visitors got off to a dismal start as Okoye darted out of the penalty area and collided with Moise Kean, who had cleared the ball. The stopper who touched the ball with his arm was also shown a straight red card.
Fiorentina took the lead in the 21st minute when Nicolo Fagioli took a free kick to Rolando Mandragola, who fired a low shot under Udinese’s substitute goalkeeper Razvan Sava.
A great shot from Albert Guðmundsson and a header from Kjör N’Dour gave Fiorentina a comfortable win at half-time.
Keane scored two goals after the break, both of which were Udinese’s comeback goals from Oumar Sollet.
Further red
Atalanta managed to squeeze out a 1-0 victory against Genoa, a 10-a-side side that suffered a red point in very similar circumstances to Udinese.
Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Reali was sent off in the third minute for a foul on Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca.
As expected, Atalanta dominated the ball, but Genoa looked far more dangerous with their chances and looked like they might hold out for a draw until Isak Hien headed in a corner in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
U.S. national team midfielder Yunus Moussa made his first Serie A start for Atalanta since matchday 2 on August 29.
Genoa remains two points ahead of safety.
wish for safety
Stefano Moreo’s last-gasp equalizer gave Pisa a 2-2 draw with Cagliari.
Pisa were within three points of safety. Cagliari remain three points above the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, Torino defeated Sassuolo 1-0.
