MILAN (AP) — Roma missed out on a chance to top Serie A with a 2-1 loss to Juventus on Saturday.
Francisco Conceição and Reus Openda scored for Juventus, with Tommaso Baldanzi producing a frenetic finale. Juventus is now one point behind fourth-place Roma.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side would have moved into a tie with Inter Milan at the top of Serie A if they won, as the three teams above them, Roma and Bologna, were competing in the Italian Super Cup to be held in Saudi Arabia.
Paulo Dybala, who won five Serie A titles with Juventus, got Roma off to a near-perfect start but his finish fell short and crashed straight into the arms of Bianconeri goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.
Juventus broke the deadlock at half-time. Conceição found Kenan Yildiz on the left, cut inside and put in a low cross that was met with a backheel by Andrea Cambiaso and Conceição fired a cross into the bottom right corner.
Roma goalkeeper Miles Svilar made a superb save and another excellent effort in the 70th minute to evade Weston McKennie’s header, but the American international touched the rebound and Openda slotted it into an empty net.
Roma were back in the game five minutes later when Wesley brilliantly won the ball back and played a through ball to Lewis Ferguson. His diagonal drive was saved by Di Gregorio, but Baldanzi smashed in the rebound.
In the 80th minute, Yildiz hit the right post.

Both Lazio and Cremonese failed to capitalize on their chances, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
