Haaland has already surpassed Cristiano in the Premier League

Erling Haaland continues to rewrite English football history. The Norwegian striker scored two goals and provided one assist in Manchester City’s win over West Ham, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s 103 goals in the Premier League.

The City striker reached this figure in just 114 games, but it is a far cry from the 236 games Ronaldo needed to reach that figure during his time at Manchester United. A few weeks ago, Haaland had already become the player who needed the fewest matches to reach 100 goals in the English league, and now he has added another milestone to his impressive collection.

Cristiano Ronaldo under threat of two records at the end of the year

The end of the calendar year could bring more than one bitter pill for Cristiano Ronaldo. In a matter of hours, two of his most iconic records have been seriously violated by today’s biggest names in football, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé, one of which has already been surpassed.

The Norwegian has already surpassed the Portuguese’s historic record in the Premier League, but the Frenchman is on the verge of surpassing him in a Real Madrid shirt on the final day of 2025.

Mbappe one goal away from breaking Real Madrid’s CR7 record

That’s not the only threat. Tonight at the Santiago Bernabéu, Kylian Mbappé will have the chance to surpass another historic record set by Cristiano Ronaldo: 59 goals in a calendar year for Real Madrid, a figure set by the Portuguese in 2013.

The French striker needs just one goal to equal this record and two goals to make it definitive. With the Whites facing Sevilla, the pressure is on and the Bernabéu is hopeful of witnessing a new chapter in the club’s history.

Context and inevitable comparisons

It’s worth remembering that Cristiano Ronaldo started out as a winger, achieving many records, especially in his early years in England, before transforming into one of the most ruthless goalscorers of a generation. Still, Haaland and Mbappe’s numbers cannot be ignored.

The Norwegian has also had an excellent season. He scored 19 goals in 17 Premier League games, scoring decisive goals, 10 of which were opening goals. Haaland leads Harry Kane in the race for the Golden Boot, with Mbappé close behind.

Traditions continue, but records are lost

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the absolute standard in modern football, but at the end of 2025 a clear picture remains: his record is no longer untouchable. New generations are beginning to not only compete with his legacy, but even surpass it in symbolic dates and historical scenes.

The question is no longer if there will be more CR7 records, but when and who will achieve them next.
