DORTMUND, Germany (AP) – Borussia Dortmund defeated Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0 on Friday, extending their unbeaten run in the league to eight games and moving into second place in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund were six points behind leaders Bayern Munich and three points behind Leipzig.
Dortmund started with no players. Jobe Bellingham suspended Waldemar Anton, Aaron Anselmino and Marcel Sabitzer were also injured, but Julian Brandt, another injury concern, was inserted into the starting XI and immediately made an impact.
With 10 minutes remaining, Brandt appeared at the far post to slot in a cross from Niklas Süle to put the home side ahead. It was the talented midfielder’s second goal in two games.
After taking the lead, Dortmund controlled the match for a long time, but had to wait until the deathbed for the decisive moment.
Maximilian Beyer scored after receiving a great pass from Fabio Silva, easing the nerves of a team that had given up the lead in their last two league games.
Mönchengladbach finished in 11th place.
