RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) – Bologna beat Inter Milan 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Saudi Arabia on Friday and will face Napoli in next week’s Italian Super Cup final.
Ciro Immobile scored the winning goal against Bologna, making his first appearance in the Super Cup, after Inter were without Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella and Ange-Joan Bony.
Lewis Ferguson and Jonathan Lowe also scored for Bologna, while Lautaro Martínez and Stefan de Vrij left for Inter.
The result means Bologna will face Napoli in Riyadh on Monday. Serie A champions Napoli defeated AC Milan 2-0 in the first semi-final game on Thursday.
The Italian Super Cup will be played between the winners and runners-up of last season’s Serie A and Italian Cup, with all matches to be played in Saudi Arabia.
At Riyadh’s Al Awal Park Stadium, Inter took the lead after just 70 seconds. Bastoni moved forward and put a cross at the far post, where Marcus Thuram volleyed home a superb shot.
Bologna equalized 10 minutes before half-time thanks to Riccardo Orsolini. The former Juventus winger scored from the penalty spot after Jan Bisek was adjudged to have handled him.
Both teams had chances to win before regulation time, but illegal finishing and poor goaltending forced the game into a penalty shootout.
