ROME (AP) — Brazilian full-back Wesley França scored the only goal as Roma defeated Como 1-0 on Monday to move within three points of Serie A leaders Inter Milan.
Franca, who joined from Flamengo in the summer, gave Roma the breakthrough just after the hour mark when he received a pass from Matthias Soule and fired a low shot at the far post.
Until then, matches at the Stadio Olimpico had been unremarkable.
The first half was an even affair, with the defense having the upper hand, with Como’s Jean Butes, the only goalkeeper, making some saves.
The second half got a little more exciting, with Brian Cristante’s goal canceled out for the home team.
However, chances were few and there were no further goals, but this will not be a concern for Roma, who have overcome their recent slump to move into fourth place.
Como remained in seventh place, six points behind. It was Cesc Fabregas’ team’s second consecutive defeat, both of which were to teams higher up in the table.
