BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Legacy has signed free agent goaltender Casey Murphy through the 2029 season, the National Women’s Soccer League expansion club announced Monday.
Murphy has been playing for North Carolina Courage since 2020 after spending two seasons with the Seattle Reign. She appeared in 108 games in goal for Courage and played every game in the 2024 season.
Murphy also appeared in 20 games for the U.S. team and served as backup to Alyssa Neher at the Paris Olympics.
“I’m excited to be in a sports city like this,” Murphy said in a statement. “There’s a reason people call it ‘Titletown.’ I’m excited to be here building a culture from the ground up and being a part of something new.” “This team has an exciting energy and ambition that attracted me. I look forward to applying my leadership skills, setting the standard for my teammates every day, meeting new people, and getting involved in the community.”
Murphy, 29, played two seasons with Montpellier in France’s top flight after playing collegiately at Rutgers.
Legacy will begin play in conjunction with the Denver Summit next season as the NWSL expands to 16 teams.
