FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) – The United States will face Senegal on May 31 in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the penultimate friendly before the World Cup opener.
The United States has four games left before co-hosting the World Cup with Mexico and Canada. The United States, ranked 14th in the world, will play No. 8 Belgium on March 28 and No. 6 Portugal three days later, both in Atlanta. The U.S. will play Senegal, ranked No. 19, before facing No. 9 Germany on June 6 in Chicago.
This will be the first meeting between the United States and Senegal. The U.S. Soccer Federation announced the game against Senegal on Thursday.
At the World Cup, the U.S. will play No. 39 Paraguay in the Group D opener on June 12 in Inglewood, California, seven days later against No. 26 Australia in Seattle, and return to Inglewood on June 25 to finish the group stage and face the playoff winners of Turkey (No. 25), Slovakia (No. 45), Romania (No. 47) and Kosovo (No. 80).
Senegal will open Group I against No. 3 France on June 16, followed by No. 29 Norway six days later, both in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Lions of Teranga will conclude the first round in Toronto on June 26th against Bolivia (76 wins), Iraq (58 wins) and Suriname (123 wins).
