MEXICO CITY (AP) – Three days after Monterrey was eliminated in Mexico’s Apertura semifinals, the Spanish defender… Sergio Ramos Say goodbye to his team.
Ramos, 39, arrived in Mexico on a one-year contract that ended with Monterrey’s elimination on Saturday.
“It’s never easy to say goodbye. A phase of my career that started with so much excitement. in February “I was able to discover a new country, a new city, a new style of football, and left with many new experiences and, more importantly, new friends,” Ramos posted on his official social media account on Tuesday.
Ramos became Monterrey’s captain and played in 34 games in all competitions, scoring eight goals.
“I left everything on and off the pitch to be able to give my all,” said the defender. “I always look back fondly on this stage of my career.”
Monterrey, commonly known as Rayados, is one of the most financially powerful clubs in the country.
Team president Jose Antonio Noriega said the club and Ramos were unable to agree on a contract extension, without providing further details.
Ramos, who was world champion with Spain in 2010 and European champion in 2008 and 2012, won five Spanish La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues in 16 seasons with his club Real Madrid.
