MANCHESTER, England (AP) — pressure is building Ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match against Manchester City, he spoke about Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso.
Madrid have won only two of their last seven games in all competitions, including a 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo at the weekend.
Ahead of the game against City, Alonso had to deal with reports in the Spanish media that he had lost control in the dressing room.
“This is a team and we are all united,” he said. “In football you can change your perspective quickly and we are at that stage.”
Kylian Mbappé’s availability is doubtful Alonso’s concerns grew even more serious. The French striker reportedly had a problem with his left leg on Tuesday and trained separately from the rest of the squad.
City manager Josep Guardiola sympathized with Alonso, who he coached during his time at Bayern Munich.
“Barcelona and Real Madrid are the most difficult clubs to be a manager of because of the environment,” he said. “This is a difficult place and he knows that. That’s the reality of being here.”
Other matches on Wednesday include defending champions Paris Saint-Germain vs. Athletic Bilbao, Arsenal vs. Club Brugge and Italian champions Napoli vs. Benfica.
