LEEDS, England (AP) — Mohamed Salah said on Saturday he felt like he had been “thrown under the bus” by the Premier League champions, casting doubt on his future at Liverpool.
Salah spoke out after being dropped for three games in a row and not being used as a substitute. Liverpool drew with Leeds 3-3.
“To be fair, it’s very, very disappointing. I’ve done a lot for this club so far, especially last season,” the Egyptian international told the media. “Right now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why. I feel like the club threw me under the bus. That’s how I feel. I think it’s clear that someone was trying to put all the blame on me.”
Salah won two Premier League titles and also won the Champions League during his eight trophy-filled years at Anfield. signed a 2 year contract He extended his contract in April, just before winning his second Premier League Player of the Year award.
However, his comments raise questions about his future after a disappointing start to the season for him and the club, with their title defense faltering with just two wins from their last 10 games.
“We have to accept the situation we’re in and we’ll make our choices based on that,” manager Arne Slott said of the decision to keep Salah out for the third year in a row after the draw with Leeds.
Salah, now 33, says his relationship with Slott has broken down.
“We got a lot of promises in the summer, but I can’t say they’re keeping their promises because they’ve been on the bench for three games so far,” he said. “I’ve said many times before that I had a good relationship with the coach, but suddenly it stopped.
“I don’t know why, but the way I see it, it seems like someone doesn’t want me in the club.”
Salah is scheduled to play in the African Cup of Nations this month but said he was unsure what would happen in his absence.
