Lille, France (AP) – Etan Mbappé’s goal Friday handed Marseille a 1-0 victory, handing Lille its first Ligue 1 loss in six weeks.
Fourth place Lille are tied with third place Marseille on points.
Marseille had been undefeated in six league games, but due to poor defense, they were reversed in the 10th minute.
Mbappe broke free from the mix-up between the goalkeeper and the defense and tapped in Nabil Bentaleb’s long pass.
Lille’s three-game winning streak means they only have an impressive home record of 16 wins and 2 losses in their last 23 Ligue 1 games.
It was Marseille’s first loss in a league match since October 25th against Reims. Marseille struggled on a cold night in Lille and did not have a shot on target until the 76th minute.
Brest beat Monaco
Brest defeated Monaco 1-0, making it their third consecutive win. Kamoli Doumbia scored the only goal with a header in the 28th minute.
Brest’s Ludovic Adjorke was sent off in the first hour for a vicious tackle on Lamine Kamara, but the team held on and moved up to ninth place.
Meanwhile, Monaco regretted a lackluster performance that prevented them from gaining momentum after last week’s win over defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.
They remained in 7th place, 4 points behind Brest.
