BERLIN (AP) — Harry Kane was substituted with an hour remaining but had enough time to score a hat-trick on Saturday.
The England captain took his tally to 28 goals for Bayern Munich this season, with the defending champions beating Stuttgart 5-0 away to extend their lead to 11 points.
Second place Leipzig later hosted Eintracht Frankfurt.
With Kane on the bench, Conrad Reimer took over the scoring duties and produced a great finish. The Austrian midfielder collected a long ball, combined with Michael Oliseh, and scored with an exquisite backheel from close range past goalkeeper Alexander Nübel in the 11th minute.
Kane made it 2-0 with a low shot into the bottom corner and Josip Stanisic added his name to the scoresheet. Stuttgart added further sparkle to the win in the 81st minute with Kane from the penalty spot after Lorenz Assignon cleared the ball with his arm and they were down to 10 men.
Kane completed the rout with two minutes remaining with a flick from Olise’s cross. According to the league, this was his 10th hat trick in the Bundesliga.
After being named Man of the Match, Kane said: “It’s been a while. I’m happy to have won it again.” “Three big points. We’ll keep going.”
Kane has found the net a further five times for England this season, taking his total goals tally for club and country to 33.
Stuttgart had a chance before half-time, but lacked the decisiveness. Midfielder Nicolas Nalty thought he had equalized, but a VAR check had his goal ruled out for offside.
Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 16 league and cup matches against German opponents this season.
