SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — British television presenter Laura Woods collapsed on Tuesday during a live pre-match broadcast of the women’s international match between England and Ghana.
Footage showed Woods staggering forward to the side of the field at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium before being caught by co-hosts Ian Wright and Anita Assante.
She later posted on Instagram that the incident was “a little weird” and that she was embarrassed that it happened on TV.
“I’m sorry to worry you all, but I’m fine. The wonderful Saints paramedics say it’s probably a virus and I need some rest and hydration,” she posted.
British broadcaster ITV immediately went into a commercial break and replaced Woods with stand-in host Katie Shanahan.
“As you may have noticed, we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she just got sick,” Shanahan said. “But she is in such good condition that I decided to intervene late.”
Shanahan later added, “I want to reassure everyone that she’s fine.”
Woods’ fiancée, Adam Collard, also posted on X: “Laura is okay and is with the right people. Thank you for your kind messages.”
