FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Catalina Macario scored in her third consecutive international game and the United States defeated Italy 2-0 on Monday night in the final national team game of the year.
The U.S. has scored in 16 consecutive games, including all 15 this year. The national team finished 2025 with 12 wins, 3 losses, and 0 draws.
Macario scored the opening goal in the 20th minute, firing a shot from the corner of the box, over the head of Italian goalkeeper Francesca Durante and into the side netting at the far post.
Jadyn Shaw added a second goal before halftime, taking a pass from Alyssa Thompson, bracing herself and calmly finishing just out of Durante’s reach to make it 2-0.
Claudia Dickie recorded her sixth goal appearance and fifth clean sheet for the United States.
Macario had two goals. 3-0 win over Italy on Friday night Located in Orlando, Florida. Olivia Moultrie, who scored another goal on Friday, was available off the bench on Monday.
Macario, who plays for Chelsea, led the team this year with eight goals, including seven in his last seven starts. She almost got her second point at Fort Martin. Lauderdale’s Chase Stadium, but was disqualified for a foul, denying him two goals for the third time in his last three international matches.
Macario and Emily Fox were among the players named as candidates for the Women’s National Soccer Player of the Year award earlier Monday, along with Rose LaBelle, Alyssa Thompson and Sam Coffey.
U.S. coach Emma Hayes made five changes to her starting lineup from Friday’s win over Italy, including veterans Naomi Girma, Lindsay Heaps, Fox and Macario. Three teenagers started for the United States, including 19-year-olds Claire Hutton and Jordyn Bugg and 18-year-old Lily Johannes.
The U.S. national team will next gather for its annual camp in Carson, Calif., from Jan. 17-27, with games against Paraguay and an opponent to be determined scheduled.
