AUGSBURG, Germany (AP) – Former Germany forward Sandro Wagner’s first head coaching job has ended.
Augsburg and the 38-year-old Wagner parted ways on Monday after a disappointing start to the season with five losses in six games.
The Bundesliga club said in a statement that the decision to release the player was made after “open negotiations” with Wagner, Augsburg’s managing director Michael Stroll and sporting director Beni Weber.
Wagner previously worked as an assistant to Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann. took over Augsburg He took his first top-level coaching job in May.
However, things did not go according to plan as Augsburg have lost eight of their 12 Bundesliga games so far. The team suffered damage before the break, losing 3-0 to Hoffenheim on Saturday and also being eliminated in the German Cup by second-tier Bochum.
The club said former Augsburg manager Manuel Baum will return as interim manager until the winter break.
