Josep Guardiola’s main concerns about the future of Manchester City’s style

Manchester City beat Leeds United in style, with Josep Guardiola’s side able to secure a 3-2 win in the last minute, but the game left fans and coaching staff with some concerns.

After taking a risk and suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, the Cityzens bounced back in the Premier League, but their victory was not without some drama.

Leeds United started the game on the right foot, taking a 2-0 lead before a defensive error forced them to level the score at 2-2. Midfielder Phil Foden scored twice to give Manchester City victory, giving the Blues a much-needed win.

Guardiola’s main concerns about Manchester City

Possessing the ball has always been one of Manchester City’s main strengths, but now it’s not as easy as it once was. Head coach Josep Guardiola will be concerned that the number of times he conceded the ball against Leeds United ultimately led to costly mistakes in defence.

Coach Guardiola said after the match: “It wasn’t a perfect game in the first half, but we had chances and it should have ended, so we didn’t concede a goal.” He added that football is about emotion and that was on full display in the second half. “After the two recent losses, it was important to get back to winning ways.”

Manchester City are still developing and are a little rough around the edges at times. A team that won the Champions League in 2023 and played great football every time they stepped on the field needs that confidence and polish to return.

Togetherness, key to Manchester City’s success

Phil Foden played a key role in Manchester City’s victory over Leeds United, allowing his team to find a way to win despite the instability they have shown throughout the Premier League season and Champions League.

“Title fights are never simple. There are always ups and downs, periods when things don’t seem to go forward and we’ve been through that too. At the end there was a sense of belief and unity. I hope that was the case today and we can start from here, but you never know what will happen,” Foden said after the match.

The English midfielder has scored 64 Premier League goals in his career, more than City legend Yaya Toure and football icon David Beckham. “I was really hungry to play today and prove that I can still score goals,” Foden said. “We missed some chances against Newcastle so we wanted to put that right.”
