Midfielder Jess Fishlock, who has been with the Seattle Reign since the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League in 2013, has signed a one-year contract that will keep her with the club until 2026.
Fishlock, who retired from the Wales national team last month, has scored 48 goals and provided 30 assists this season. She is the 2021 league MVP and has been named to the NWSL Best Eleven seven times.
With Laine teammate Lauren Burns retiring after this season, Fishlock joined the league in his first year and is the last remaining player who has played his entire career with one team.
“It’s not over yet,” Fishlock said in a statement Monday. “This club means everything to me: the people, the supporters, the staff, and my teammates. I love competing for Seattle, I give everything I have to this group, and I truly believe in what we’re building here.”
The 38-year-old has six goals and two assists this season. Her 48 goals rank second on the club’s career list, and her assists rank her first.
“Jess sees the game at a level that few players do, and that comes from years of experience at the highest level,” Reign coach Laura Harvey said in a statement. “Her tactical awareness, ability to adapt in key moments, and commitment to improving the players around her will continue to propel this team forward.”
Fishlock retired from international competition in October after 19 years with the Wales national team. She played 166 games for Wales and scored 48 goals, more than any other player in the country, male or female.
This summer, she led Wales to their first appearance in a major international competition at the Women’s European Championship, and with her goal against France, she became the oldest scorer in the competition’s history.
