LONDON (AP) – Fan organizations have called on Premier League clubs to freeze home ticket prices for the next two seasons, share price data and consult with supporter organizations.
More than 100 organizations signed a letter published by the Football Supporters’ Association on Monday, saying fan loyalty “should not be maximized for profit”.
“Football is for everyone, and soaring prices are making it harder for regular fans, especially young people and working-class communities, to attend matches,” the letter said. “By halting ticket price increases, we have the opportunity to ensure that football remains inclusive and accessible for everyone.”
Of the top 20 clubs, 19 have increased their prices for the 2024-25 season, and 13 clubs have increased their prices for this campaign.
Fan groups argued that failing to raise prices for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons would end an “arms race.”
“We understand that some clubs are concerned about maintaining prices if their rivals continue to raise prices, which is why we need a Premier League-wide suspension. This will stop the cycle of constant price increases and give us time to find a fairer and more transparent approach that does not continue to burden our fans.”
The letter said the current cap of £30 (approximately $39) on away tickets was a “ground-breaking agreement that demonstrated that clubs and supporters can work together to bring about positive change. It shows that caring for supporters strengthens the game and this must continue.”
