MADRID (AP) – Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has claimed his club is considering allowing investors to buy up to 10% of the club’s shares. super league It will continue to be an “indispensable project” for the future of soccer.
At a lecture with club members club general meeting Perez announced on Sunday that he would propose legislative changes in an extraordinary session of parliament to allow outside investors to take minority stakes in clubs.
“We will remain a members’ club, but we must create a subsidiary in which Real Madrid’s 100,000 members will always have absolute control,” he said. “On this basis, this subsidiary only needs to incorporate a minority stake of, for example, 5% (and never more than 10%) from one or more investors who are committed to a very long-term investment and are willing to contribute their own resources.”
Perez said it would be “the clearest and most convincing way to evaluate our club.”
“The fact that someone would invest so much money for an iconic stock is the best indication of the value of Real Madrid,” he said, without disclosing the amount. “At the same time, this limited investment means that the management, governance and nature of the club will always remain in the hands of its members, representatives and board.”
Perez said investors had a duty to “respect our values”, contribute to the club’s growth and “protect our assets from external attacks”. He said Real Madrid always has the right to buy back assets from investors.
“In short, they are strategic allies, never owners,” he says.
Perez reiterated multiple times that members will never lose control of the club, whose voice will be heard in a referendum on reforms. He said the proposal would see the current 100,000 members recognized as the true owners of the club, with membership numbers fixed going forward.
“With this protection in place, no one will be able to diminish their status as owners or change the balance that guarantees Real Madrid’s independence and stability,” Perez said. “It is up to our members today to uphold our culture of values and ensure that our club continues to lead world football for generations to come.”
He denied that the reform would “cost members money, or that we are doing it because we need money.”
“Everyone knows we are the richest club in the world and all we want is to remain that way and keep our traditions. That is complete nonsense,” he said.
Perez said the reason for the reforms was “to protect the club from external and internal attacks on its assets and to highlight its values so that we all recognize the treasures we have in our hands as members.”
super league
Perez said the club remains fully supportive. Widely criticized Super League idea.
“We continue to insist that this is an essential project for the future of football, because without it the gap between English football and the rest of Europe will be decisively closed,” he said.
“Super League has already been an undeniable success in football. We have permanently dismantled the UEFA monopoly that lasted more than 70 years in record time, otherwise our future would have been destroyed,” Perez insisted.
the president pointed out recent court decisions A favorable outcome for the club against UEFA in relation to the Super League.
“The serious nature of the judgment obtained allows us to claim from UEFA huge damages amounting to millions of dollars, which their illegal actions have caused us by disrupting our project and abusing their dominant position, apart from facilitating the organization of our own competitions,” he said. “We can now announce that we have begun proceedings to address a financial claim against UEFA.”
Perez complained again. Spanish Soccer League considers holding regular season matches overseas. In October, the league announced that Barcelona was scheduled to play a regular-season game against Villarreal in the Miami suburbs in December, but the decision was canceled following growing opposition to playing the game domestically.
Spanish league president Javier Tebas on Sunday criticized Perez for his recent skirmish with the club.
Madrid announced that all proposals discussed at the general meeting were approved almost unanimously.
“I can be very proud of Real Madrid,” Perez said. “I can say from the bottom of my heart that we are stronger than ever. We are the best club in the world in terms of sport, finances and organizational structure.”
