FLORENCE, Italy (AP) – Juventus’ game against Fiorentina was briefly suspended Saturday after prolonged racist and derogatory chants from home fans.
Already in the 11th minute, an announcement was made for fans to stop chanting towards Serbian former Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.
Juventus were initially awarded a penalty after Pablo Mari appeared to bring down Vlahovic in the 14th minute, but the insults grew even louder when the decision was overturned after a video review.
The referee tried to restart the match, but instead had to tell Fiorentina captain Gianluca Mancini to tell the fans to stop chanting.
It is the third year in a row that racist chants have been directed at Blachowicz, who acrimoniously left Fiorentina in January 2022.
