NAPLES, Italy (AP) — Franck Anguissa has become the third Napoli player to be sidelined with a long-term thigh injury.
Anguissa was injured while on international duty with Cameroon and initial reports suggested he had tested positive, but Napoli released a statement on Thursday saying tests had revealed a “severe lesion in the left hamstring”.
Napoli have not announced when Anguissa will return, but the 29-year-old midfielder is likely to be out for three to four months.
fellow midfielder kevin de bruyne and forward Romelu Lukaku Both are out with similar injuries, and neither is expected to return until the new year.
Anguissa played 15 games in Serie A and the Champions League this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
Due to this injury, he will not be able to participate in the African Cup of Nations, which begins next month.
