MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid was held to a 0-0 draw by Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish league on Sunday, losing for the second consecutive game. Lost to Liverpool in the Champions League.
Madrid’s attack struggled, and they failed to score again, having found the back of the net in every game this season until Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool.
Madrid remain at the top of the Spanish league, five points behind second-placed Villarreal, but Barcelona could move within three points of the leaders by defeating Celta Vigo later on Sunday.
Madrid had won 13 of 15 games in all competitions this season, but suffered a setback in September when they lost 5-2 to Liverpool and Atlético Madrid in the Spanish league.
Rayo, who are in 12th place, lost 4-0 to Villarreal in their last league match, but went on to win back-to-back games in the Europa League and Copa del Rey.
Earlier on Sunday, seventh-placed Athletic Bilbao ended their losing streak in all competitions with three points. They defeated Oviedo 1-0 with a goal from Nico Williams in the 25th minute. Nico Williams made a great run down the left flank, past three defenders and found the back of the net from a tough angle.
It was a six-game winless streak for Oviedo, who are at the bottom of all competitions.
