BERLIN (AP) — Bayern Munich finally failed to win the game.
In the Bundesliga on Saturday, Union Berlin’s Dutch defender Danilo Doek scored two goals to hold off Bayern’s powerhouse 2-2, ending Bayern’s 16-game winning streak to start the season.
It could have been much worse for Bayern, but Harry Kane’s stoppage-time goal saved them from defeat.
As a result, Bayern fell one game short of starting their Bundesliga record of 10 consecutive wins since 2015.
Kompany made just one change to the squad that beat European champions Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday, starting Leon Goretzka in place of Aleksandar Pavlovic.
Ilyas Ansah thought he had scored Union’s first goal on his 21st birthday, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR check for offside.
Union remained in control and took the lead in the 27th minute when Jannik Habeler surprised the Bayern defense with a low corner kick and Doyek swung the ball past Manuel Neuer to take the lead in the 27th minute.
But Luis Diaz kept the ball in play with a slide and turn, leaping past Haveler and then firing a shot past Frederik Ronnow from a seemingly impossible angle to equalize in the 38th minute.
Union remained competitive after the break and, after frustrating Bayern’s stars, Doeki scored a goal for the home side in the 83rd minute.
Doyek stopped Kane’s headed clearance with his thigh and pushed the ball past Neuer, sparking wild celebrations around the Stadion an der Alten Forsterei.
Kane took revenge by scoring the equalizer in the third minute of stoppage time.
