FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Marko Mitrovic, who led the United States to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympics and this year’s U-20 World Cup, was named coach of Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution on Friday.
Mitrovic replaces Caleb Porter. I was fired in mid-September. There are four games left in the season. New England finished 11th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference with nine wins, 16 losses and nine ties, missing out on the playoffs for the second straight year.
Mitrovic, 47, was an assistant with the Chicago Fire from 2016 to 2019 and Reading from 2020 to 2022 before becoming the head coach of the U.S. U-19 team in April 2022.
He served as an assistant to national team interim head coaches Anthony Hudson and BJ Callaghan from April to July 2023, before being hired as coach of the U-23 team, leading the team to the quarterfinals of the French Olympic Soccer Tournament. America lost to Morocco 4-0..
The United States lost to Morocco 3-1 in the quarterfinals of this year’s U-20 World Cup.
