ZURICH (AP) – The Norwegian and Italian soccer federations have been fined by FIFA for fan violence during last month’s World Cup qualifier against Israel.
FIFA said both federations were charged with charges related to obstructing the national anthem, invading spectators into stadiums and disrupting the “order and safety” of matches. It released documents regarding the World Cup disciplinary incident late Thursday.
The man who was on the field during Norway’s 5-0 win over Israel has frequently stopped international soccer matches over the past 20 years, including the men’s World Cup finals.
FIFA’s complaint did not include Palestinian flags with slogans displayed at matches played in Oslo and Udine, Italy.
FIFA fined the Italian federation 12,500 Swiss francs (about $15,500) and announced that Norway must pay 10,000 Swiss francs (about $12,400).
