PARIS (AP) — Substitute Gonzalo Ramos headed home from a corner kick with seconds left in stoppage time as Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain secured a 1-0 home win against Nice on Saturday.
In the final moments of the game, Hviča Kvaratscheria headed in a corner on the right and Ramos scored from close range to save PSG from a draw for the fourth time in five games.
Coach Luis Enrique is missing Injured forward Desiree Douetstarted for Tuesday’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich with Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele on the bench.
PSG dominated the match but struggled to create chances in the first half against a well-organized Nice side. Midway through the second half, midfielder Vicinha’s powerful shot was well saved by Nice goalkeeper Yevvan Diouf.
Ramos hit the post in the 80th minute and Diouf headed home from close range in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
However, Diouf failed to defend the ensuing corner kick, and Ramos, who is often used as a substitute, scored his 38th goal, marking his 100th appearance for PSG.
“He is a very important player for us because he is ready for every game, whether he starts or not,” coach Luis Enrique said. “Every five minutes Gonzalo is on the field is five minutes of quality.”
PSG lost 1-0 at home to Paris FC, but with this win they moved four points ahead of second-place Monaco.
Nigeria winger Mohsen Simon scored early in the second half, moments later when goalkeeper Kevin Trapp denied Monaco midfielder Magnes Akuriosh with his outstretched right foot.
Later on Saturday, third-placed Marseille faced struggling Auxerre.
Heading into this weekend’s Round 11, the top six teams are separated by just two points. The two sides haven’t been this close since the start of the 2010-11 season, when Lille won. ___
