AUGSBURG, Germany (AP) – Selhou Ghirassy returned to his goal-scoring form as Borussia Dortmund moved into second place with a 1-0 win over Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Friday.
Guirassy picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box seven minutes before half-time and calmly slotted it under the goalkeeper for the only goal.
The Guinea international, who scored four goals in his first three league games, failed to find the back of the net in his next four games, but Friday’s performance moved him to second place in the Bundesliga scoring list behind Harry Kane.
He showed a timely return to form ahead of next week’s Champions League match against Manchester City.
Guirassi, who was named one of 10 candidates for Africa’s Player of the Year last week, scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga last season and was joint top scorer in last season’s Champions League.
Both teams had chances after the break on a chilly night in Bavaria, but were unable to add to their tally in a game that saw just two shots on target throughout 90 minutes.
Dortmund were four points behind leaders Bayern Munich with a game in hand.
Augsburg has lost three games in a row and is now in 15th place.
