BERLIN (AP) – Freiburg’s Vincenzo Grifo scored a stunning free kick to deny Eintracht Frankfurt a victory on Sunday ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool.
In the 87th minute, Grifo hit the ball from a standing position and the ball went over the Frankfurt two-man wall and into the inside of the right post, giving Freiburg a 2-2 draw.
Matthias Ginter almost snatched victory for Freiburg in stoppage time.
Delhi Shahant put the home side ahead in the second minute when Johan Manzambi cut and set up a pass from Robin Koch.
Jonathan Burkhardt equalized by controlling the ball with his right foot and past Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atbolu with his left, before scoring again just before half-time to put Frankfurt ahead.
Grifo had the final say in the 75th minute, replacing Shelhant.
Frankfurt hosts Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday.
St. Pauli then hosted Hoffenheim.
