BERLIN (AP) – Borussia Monchengladbach’s new sporting director Ruben Schröder maintains faith in interim manager Eugen Polanski despite another disappointing result.
Gladbach Lost 1-3 to Union Berlin After the fourth game since Polanski took over as manager on Friday, they were at the bottom of the Bundesliga.
Polanski, who was the Under-23s manager, took over after Gerardo Seoane was sacked after Gladbach failed to win their opening three league games. Gladbach has also not won since then.
“Basically I’m confident,” Schröder said of Polanski. Polanski’s side have now conceded 14 goals in four games after conceding three more in Berlin.
Coach Schröder said of the lackluster defense, “There were some good points in the game, but of course there were also some bad points.”
Schroeder celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday and was named his successor on Tuesday. Roland Vilkas resigned last month. This marks the end of his 35-year association with the club.
Former defender Schröder briefly worked as a coach before moving on to manage Greuter Furth, Werder Bremen, Mainz, Schalke, Leipzig, Austrian team Salzburg and now Gladbach.
Gladbach next face Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich on October 25th.
“This game also starts 0-0. It’s completely even,” said Schröder.
