LISBON (AP) — Another goal, another record for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, 40, scored twice for Portugal against Hungary on Tuesday, making him the player with the most goals in World Cup qualifiers.
His first goal, scored from close range in the 22nd minute, was Ronaldo’s 40th goal in World Cup qualifying, breaking a tie with former Guatemalan player Carlos Ruiz.
The Al Nasr striker then added a second goal in first-half stoppage time, extending his record to 41 goals in 50 World Cup qualifying matches.
Ronaldo currently has a record 143 goals in the men’s national team.
He left the pitch in the 78th minute with the score at 2-1, and Hungary equalized with Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal in stoppage time to deny Portugal a spot in the World Cup with two group games remaining.
Portugal leads Group F with a five-point lead over second-placed Hungary.
