ATLANTA (AP) – Atlanta United goaltender Brad Guzan will retire after the 2025 MLS season, the former U.S. national team player announced Tuesday.
During a 21-year career that included nine seasons in the Premier League with Aston Villa, Hull and Middlesboro, Guzan made 551 appearances for Atlanta and helped the team win the 2018 MLS Cup and 2019 US Open Cup.
Guzan played in 64 games with the U.S. National Team, won three Gold Cups, and was named to the U.S. World Cup squad in 2010 and 2014. He was also the starting keeper for the US team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Drafted second overall in 2005 after playing at the University of South Carolina, Guzan played four seasons with Chivas USA and was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2007. He made 201 appearances in the Premier League for England between 2008 and 2017.
Guzan will retire as Atlanta’s all-time leader in appearances, wins, saves and shutouts.
