BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) – Dragan Stojkovic has resigned as Serbia’s coach following Saturday’s 1-0 home loss to Albania in World Cup qualifying.

The Serbian Football Federation said in a statement on Sunday that he had tendered his resignation following the defeat against Leskovac. Serbia Under-21 coach Zoran Mirković is set to take interim charge in Tuesday’s Group K game away to Andorra, ahead of a meeting regarding further changes to the national team structure on Friday.

The Serbian Football Association thanked Stojkovic for “all he has done during the past four and a half years at the helm of the national team, mainly contributing to the qualification for the World Cup and the European Championship.”

Stojković, 60, is a skilled midfielder with a goal-scoring skill who played for Red Star Belgrade and won the Champions League with Marseille in 1993 before joining Japan’s Nagoya Grampus Eight.

Albania’s victory moved them past Serbia into second place in Group K, four points behind England. Striker Ray Manaj opened the scoring with a goal just before half-time. symbol of nationalism He celebrated with his hands. __
