Ehring Haaland thanked his son for helping him get into the shape of his life after scoring 18 goals in 11 games with the club and country by winning the Manchester City winner on Sunday.
Haaland became muscular through Brentford’s defense and delved into the net for the early goals of the city’s 1-0 victory.
The striker scored nine goals in seven games for City in the Premier League, three goals in two games for the Champions League, and six goals in two games for Norway.
Asked if he was in the best form of his career, Haaland said, “You can say that, I’ve never felt better than I am now.”
Haaland, 25, became his first father in December, and he praised his son in his prolific form.
“You can prepare physically, but you need to prepare mentally,” Haaland said. “And honestly, with my kids, I actually cut more than ever, so it makes me even better.
“I don’t think about football at all. Sometimes when you’re young, you think of this. You’re a little worried about things. But when you get home, I feel even more relaxed. I think I need to scream at my son.”
Haaland was particularly pleased with the nature of his goal. He ran to Josco Gvaldior’s loftball behind Brentford’s defense, shrugging centre van den burg, then sprinting through Nathan Collins before heading home in the nine minutes.
Vandenberg was physical with Haaland early in the game, which may not have helped Brentford’s cause.
“To be honest, I was a bit tired before the game so I thought it would be a tough game, but after 10 seconds he started pushing me and he started motivating me,” Haaland said. “So praised him and he made me want to do it.”
