CHICAGO (AP) — Djordje Mihailovic scored in 10 minutes of second half stoppage time by tied Toronto FC 2-2 in the Chicago fire on Saturday night.
Mihailovic discovered that the net was not assisted. It was his 10th goal and his first goal in his eighth appearance against Toronto (5-13-14). His first nine goals came in 24 appearances against the Colorado Rapids to begin the season.
Fire (15-11-7), which won its first postseason appearance since 2017, took an 5-3 road win over Intermiami on Tuesday, delaying 1-0 in the 28th minute with a goal by defender Jack Elliott.
Elliott scored goals in the 71st and 89th minutes (with assists from Philip Zincarnagel) to give Chicago a 2-1 lead. Elliott has three goals in the season, but Zinckernagel increased his total assists to 15 in his first season in the league.
Chris Brady made a total of three saves due to the fire.
Sean Johnson stopped four shots for Toronto.
The 66 goals in the fire this season are one of the club records set in 2000. Chicago went 4-1 for the second time in September.
Chicago beat Toronto 2-1 on the road on March 15th. Toronto leads the best series of all time 14-13-14.
Toronto will travel to play Los Angeles FC on Wednesday. The fire will end the regular season of the road with the New England Revolution on October 18th.
